Citing the need to focus on serious health issues, Nez Perce County Commissioner Bob Tippett will retire from his position October 2nd.

The 77-year-old Republican first earned a two-year seat on the commission in 2012, then a four-year seat in 2014. His current term ends in mid-January.

The local Republican party will select three candidates to fill the remaining three months of Tippett’s term. Governor Butch Otter will ultimately make the final selection.

Lewiston City Councilor Bob Blakey, a Democrat, is running against Republican Don Beck in November to succeed Tippett. (Lewiston Tribune)
