Lapwai woman dies, passenger injured in single-vehicle accident

A Lapwai woman was killed and another person was injured in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning.

According to the Idaho State Police, 44-year-old Aretha Everett was driving a 2008 Ford Expedition south in the 500 block of Main Street in Lapwai at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree at around 2:30 AM. Everett was killed while her 21-year-old passenger was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, and later transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. (ISP)
