Avista seeks lower rate adjustments for Idaho electric customers

Avista has asked Idaho regulators for two rate adjustments that, if approved, would result in a slight net reduction in electric costs.

The Spokane-based utility requested that the Idaho Public Utilities Commission make the new rates effective October 1st.   Avista says the proposed changes reflect differences between the utility’s cost of generating and purchasing electrical power and the cost currently reflected in customer rates, as well as a slight reduction in credits from the federal hydropower system that benefit residential customers.

If approved, a typical household would see its monthly electric bill decrease by about 70 cents.

The latest proposal is separate from Avista’s request earlier this month for decreases in electric and natural gas rates based on higher-than-expected company revenues in 2017, which would also be effective October 1st. (Spokesman-Review)
