The Lewiston School District has received a $662,000 grant to help outfit its future career and technical education building next to the new high school in the Orchards.

The money, awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, will be used to secure industry-standard equipment for its students in the areas of auto, machining, pre-engineering, health occupations, and construction.

According to estimates, the new center will help create or retain more than 385 jobs and stimulate more than $9 million in private investment. While the district will have to match the funds, certain equipment-specific items required during construction can count toward the contribution amount.

The center and the new Lewiston High School are scheduled to open in 2021. (Lewiston Tribune)
