An agreement on infrastructure and off-site improvements for the addition of three educational buildings in the Lewiston Orchards has been approved by the Lewiston School Board.

The school district is partnering with Lewis-Clark State College and the city to cover $6.8 million in various construction items near the location of the district’s new high school and career and technical education building, as well as LCSC’s CTE center, with the district’s portion at $2.4 million.

Development items include waterlines and utilities, as well as the construction of 11th and 12th streets, and a roundabout on Warner Avenue at the intersection of 12th Street.

The school board’s approval Monday follows a similar move by the Lewiston City Council, but the Idaho State Board of Education, acting as trustees for LCSC, still need to give the go-ahead.

Meanwhile, the Lewiston School Board agreed to discuss purchasing gun safes so school resource officers and law enforcement can store rifles at various schools in the case of an emergency.

The Lewiston Police Department says having the guns on site would ensure law enforcement or school resource officers are equipped with the appropriate weapons should a safety issue arise. The board expects to give the proposal more consideration next month. (Lewiston Tribune)
