Ed Board: Alcohol allowed outside UI football games, LCSC Arts center renamed

The Idaho State Board of Education on Thursday approved an alcohol permit for the University of Idaho to allow for tailgating during home football games this fall.

The Moscow school sought the permit after the board‘s policy changes last October that permitted alcohol under specific circumstances at NCAA athletic events on university campuses, with prior board approval.  Tailgating has been common practice at UofI, but until last year it was prohibited by official board policy.

The UofI permit also covers post-season home games and the spring 2019 football scrimmage.

Proposals to allow tailgating at Boise State University and Idaho State University were postponed until a future meeting.

Meanwhile, the state board of Education has greenlighted a name change for Lewis-Clark State College’s art and history facility in honor of a former college president and his wife.

The soon-to-be Lee and Deanna Vickers Center for Arts and History follows the school recently receiving state money for restoration of the downtown Lewiston building’s masonry and replacement of windows, which officials say made it an opportune time to give the center an identity that links its historic past and growth under Vickers’ leadership, with a vision for the future.
