A Kennewick man has been reported missing after falling into the water at Palouse Falls State Park.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says it received a 9-1-1 call around 1 PM Thursday from a witness who reported a friend had fallen into the water and did not surface. Authorities were working to recover the body of the 26-year-old man, who witnesses say was standing near a ledge about 100 feet above the water when the ground beneath him collapsed.
Palouse Falls is closed until further notice.
If confirmed fatal, the incident would be the second case of a death at the falls this year. A 23-year-old man died three weeks ago when he was sucked underneath the falls while swimming with friends.
Another person died a year ago when he slipped and fell from a cliff and into the river just above the falls. (Spokesman-Review, AP)
