A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next week for a 31-year-old California man charged with felony vehicular manslaughter in connection to a fatal car accident in North Lewiston last weekend.
During a court appearance Tuesday, a $75,000 bond was set for Pompeyo Salazar-Cabrera.
Lewiston police say Salazar-Cabrera was driving a Swift Transportation tractor-trailer south on U.S. Highway 95 just before 6:30 AM Saturday when he allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with State Route 128. His truck hit an eastbound 1999 Toyota Camry. The car’s driver, 19-year-old Hayden Garrett, of Clarkston, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Salazar-Cabrera was uninjured.
The preliminary hearing is set for next Wednesday.
Felony vehicular manslaughter carries a a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. (Lewiston Tribune)
