Lewiston Police Lieutenant Budd Hurd has been named interim chief of the department.

Hurd, who began his career in law enforcement with the LPD in 1990, takes over February 1st following the resignation of former chief Chris Ankeny.

Ankeny announced his resignation after 2-and-a-half years leading the LPD, citing differences with the new city manager.

Hurd served as a School Resource Officer at Lewiston High School for five years, and spent another five years assigned to the Investigations Section.  Hurd served in the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant from 2006 through 2012, when he was promoted to Lieutenant, and has since overseen the Investigations Section.
