Washington unemployment rate matches record low in October

Washington’s unemployment rate fell from to 4.5 percent in October, matching the state’s all-time low set earlier this year.

According to the state Employment Security Department, Washington added 6,900 non-farm jobs in October, with 6,000 of those hires in the private sector.

The greatest job growth occurred in professional and business services, and transportation, warehousing, and utilities.  Other sectors adding jobs were construction, wholesale trade, government, information, and financial activities.

Education and health services faced the biggest reduction in October.  Also losing jobs were leisure and hospitality, retail trade, other services, manufacturing, and mining and logging. (ESD)
