Authorities say what was believed to be an explosive device found outside a north Lewiston hotel last weekend was a modified firework.
The object discovered near the Days Inn Saturday afternoon was initially reported as a homemade bomb. Lewiston police say the device was a mortar firework wrapped in tape and had been modified with a fuse and extra powder used in fireworks.
A Spokane bomb squad responded and safely destroyed the device without detonation.
Investigators say though not a man-made bomb, the device could have caused serious damage if detonated. (Lewiston Tribune)
