Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra has officially announced she will seek re-election.

Ybarra filed her declaration of candidacy for a second four-year term Wednesday after previously stating her intentions to run again in 2015.

The former Mountain Home teacher and principal was narrowly elected to the post in 2014, with 50.6 percent of the vote over former chief deputy superintendent of public instruction Jana Jones.

In announcing her re-election campaign, Ybarra reiterated her advocacy for local control of schools, and touted accomplishments during her first term as Idaho’s schools chief, including Creation of the Idaho Content Standards, removal of the graduation test requirement, the launch of a comprehensive anti-bullying initiative.

Ybarra currently faces Wilder School District Superintendent Jeff Dillon in the Republican primary.  Dillon announced his candidacy in May. (Ybarra campaign, Spokesman-Review))
