Forest visitors can enjoy a free stay at campgrounds on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests during National Public Lands Day, which takes place Saturday.
The forest is waiving campground fees at all fee campgrounds on September 30 as a part of the nation–wide celebration of public lands. Regular fees still apply at reserved campsites.
In addition to being a “fee–free day,” National Public Lands Day brings together hundreds of thousands of volunteers for a variety of projects on public lands. To celebrate this year, the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests is teaming up with the Pierce Youth Challenge Academy for a campground clean–up event on the forest.
Held every year on the fourth Saturday in September, National Public Lands Day is coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation in conjunction with a variety of participating partners, including the Forest Service. In 2015, over 200,000 volunteers worked on projects across the United States. (USFS)
