Federal authorities are holding five public meetings in Lewiston and around Idaho this week as part of the state’s plan to take over regulating pollution discharge into lakes and rivers.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is accepting comments at the meetings as Idaho officials seek to shift control of permitting and enforcement aspects from federal authorities acting under the Clean Water Act to the state.

The public meetings are set for Monday in Idaho Falls, Tuesday in Twin Falls, Wednesday in Boise, Thursday in Lewiston, and Friday in Coeur d’Alene.

Thursday’s meeting in Lewiston begins at 4 PM at the Lewiston Community Center.  (AP)
