The Oregon wildfire burning in the Columbia River Gorge has eased a bit, as crews focus on structure and point protection.

The Eagle Creek Fire has torched more than 33,000 acres, growing by about 2,000 acres over the last couple days.  Evacuation orders remain in effect for several areas, and an evacuation shelter is set up at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.

A 50-mile stretch of Interstate 84 between Troutdale and Hood River remains closed due to fears of burned trees and rock slides landing on the highway.  Oregon transportation officials estimate between 1,500 and 2,000 trees were burned along that section, and firefighters are also occupying the freeway.  The fire is about 7 percent contained.  (AP)
