Washington Governor Jay Inslee has proclaimed a state of emergency across all Washington counties due to growing wildfire concern.

Families around the town of Cle Elum were still being evacuated due to the so-called Jolly Mountain fire.  The fire has grown to 18,000 acres and is zero-percent contained.  Nearly 1,000 residences have been evacuated under level 3 – the most urgent level – and about 1,200 are under level 2 evacuation notices.

Among the other fires in the state, a blaze burning near Mount Rainier National Park has grown to more than 19,000 acres, and heavy smoke is blanketing many cities in Washington.  Mandatory evacuations were announced for the fire near Mount Rainier, including for the Crystal Mountain ski resort, which shut down Monday because of smoke.

Meanwhile, heavy smoke is damaging air quality from Seattle to Spokane Tuesday.  The air quality in Spokane was rated as hazardous Tuesday morning, and the National Weather Service says it is likely to get worse as wind shifts bring in smoke from fires in Canada, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.  (AP, Spokesman-Review)
