An Asotin County jury has found a Clarkston man guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of another man two years ago.

The jury on Friday rendered its decision in Asotin County Superior Court for 66-year-old Melvin O’Rourke, convicted of killing Duane Hettinger in July 2015.

The two were reportedly drinking together the night of the shooting, and O’Rourke initially told police he fired the shots in self-defense because Hettinger was robbing his house.  Hettinger was dead when officers arrived, and O’Rourke was arrested at his apartment.

The jury convicted O’Rourke following 90 minutes of deliberations.
