Crews have contained a pair of wildfires that flared up Sunday near Pomeroy.

Washington state crews called in to help with the suppression effort on the Hill Complex Sunday were released Monday afternoon.

The Hill Fire south of Pomeroy burned about 30 acres of grass and threatened several homes, though no structures were lost.  A wiring problem with an air compressor was determined to be the cause of the fire.

A second blaze on Knotgrass Ridge torched about 150 acres, but its cause remains under investigation.

Air quality advisories issued by the Nez Perce Tribe and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality remain in effect at least through Thursday.

As of Monday evening, air quality was in the “unhealthy” to “unhealthy for sensitive groups” categories at several locations in north central Idaho and southeastern Washington.  The National Weather Service says smoke from local fires combined with high elevation smoke from Oregon and Montana that moves in nightly has the possibility to knock a few degrees off of daily high temperatures.

There is a chance air quality could improve Wednesday with the arrival of a new weather system.  (Lewiston Tribune)
