Attempted murder charges dismissed in 2015 shooting

Attempted murder charges have been dismissed against a Clarkston man who was accused of shooting another man in downtown Lewiston two years ago, leaving the victim paralyzed.

30-year-old Tyrone Paul was being held in the Nez Perce County Jail on the felony charge, as well as enhancements of being a persistent violator and for use of a weapon in the commission of a felony.  Paul was accused of the May 2015 shooting of Gary Grogan at a Miller Grade apartment.

Paul and several others were arrested at the time in connection to a shootout with authorities, but Paul was only held on a drug possession charge in Washington until the attempted murder count was assessed in Lewiston’s 2nd District Court.  He was sentenced to over a year-and-a-half on the drug charge.

However, Grogan died last month of an unrelated infection, and Nez Perce County prosecutors say that without his testimony, probable cause cannot be established in the attempted murder case against Paul, who was released from custody on Wednesday.  (Lewiston Tribune)
