
U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell has announced his retirement, wrapping up a 40-year career.
Tidwell rose from the ranks of firefighters to a district ranger, then forest supervisor to the head of the U.S. Forest Service, leading more than 30-thousand employees across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Tidwell was appointed chief of the Forest Service in June 2009.
His final day in office is September 1st. (AP)
