A Moscow judge is among three state district judges and one Boise attorney named as finalists for an opening on the Idaho Supreme Court.

Following two days of interviewing 13 applicants, the Idaho Judicial Council on Thursday released its list of finalists, which includes 2nd District Judge John Stegner, who has been a district judge since 1997.

For the past 15 years, Stegner has also presided over the Latah County drug court, and he lectures at the University of Idaho.  In 2012, he won the Granata Award, the Idaho court system’s top annual award for professionalism by a trial court judge.

The other finalists are 5th District Administrative Judge Richard Bevans of Twin Falls, 7th District Judge Greg Moeller of Rexburg, and Boise attorney Rebecca Rainey.

Gov. Butch Otter, who is scheduled to receive the list of finalists Monday, will make the final selection.

The new justice will take office at the end of August, when current Justice Daniel Eismann retires.  The appointee will serve out the remainder of Eismann’s term before standing for election next year.  (Spokesman-Review)
