Idaho’s unemployment rate fell for the fourth consecutive month in June to 3.1 percent.

Last month’s drop is the result of more than 2,000 Idahoans exiting the workforce or ending their work search.

Month-over-month, June estimates show Idaho’s total nonfarm payroll jobs increased by one-tenth of a percent.

Job gains were reported in construction; government; professional and business services; information; and education and health services.

Leisure and hospitality was unchanged from May, while natural resources; manufacturing; financial activities; other services; and trade, transportation, and utilities all saw declines.

The state’s labor force participation rate — those 16 years and older with jobs or looking for work — dropped to just over 63 percent, the lowest participation rate since June 1976.

June unemployment for Nez Perce and Latah counties was 2.4 percent; Clearwater County, 6 percent; Idaho County, 4.4 percent; and Lewis County, 5.2 percent.

Of Idaho’s 12 largest cities, Lewiston and Moscow tied for the second lowest jobless rate at 2.2 percent, bested only by Rexburg’s 1.7 percent. (Idaho Department of Labor)
