Idaho poised to fall further behind its neighbors on minimum wage

Idaho is about to fall further behind Washington and other neighbors on its minimum wage, putting more pressure on Gem State businesses in border cities like Lewiston, Moscow, Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene.

Numbers from the Idaho Department of Labor show that four of Idaho’s six nearby states are set to raise their minimum wage in each of the next three years, while Idaho’s rate remains at $7.25 an hour, the federal minimum.

The Washington minimum wage will climb from $11 an hour to $13.50 an hour in 2020.  Montana’s wage will rise from the current $8.16 an hour to $8.75 in 2020; Nevada’s from $8.37 to $8.96; and Oregon’s from $9.75 to $11.25.

Meanwhile, Utah and Wyoming, like Idaho, are at the federal minimum, which hasn’t changed since 2009.  (Spokesman Review, Idaho Business Review)
