The Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District could soon be eyeing major maintenance after this week’s series of domestic water main breaks.

Crews on Monday used a pump to reroute water around a large domestic water line break, which sent a surge of water through older, undersized concrete pipes, rupturing the lines along Bryden Avenue between 11th and Fifth streets, and on Linden and Airway avenues.  Crews worked through the night to repair lines, finishing their work by Tuesday afternoon.

LOID officials say the ruptures pointed out weaknesses in the system that need to be addressed.

Customers who are still experiencing low water pressure may contact LOID at (208) 746-8235.  The breaks may cause some discoloration in the water, and customers are advised to run cold water at the lowest point in a residence for five to 10 minutes.  If the water doesn’t clear, the district advised waiting 30 minutes to an hour before attempting to flush the lines again.  (LOID)
