The Idaho State Board of Education on Wednesday approved higher tuition and fees for the state’s four-year schools and Eastern Idaho Technical College.

Students at both Lewis-Clark State College and the University of Idaho will see costs climb next academic year by 3.5 percent.  That matches the amount LCSC had requested, though it was below the 6 percent hike sought by UI.  Nonresident tuition and fees will climb 5 percent for LCSC and 10.2 percent for UI.

In setting the amounts for the schools, board members weighed several factors, including salary equity among employees, increasing health insurance costs, increases in resident enrollment, affordability, and expectations for high quality education programs.

Boise State University’s request for a 5.1 percent bump in tuition and fees was whittled down to 3.5 percent, while Idaho State University received 3 percent, and Eastern Idaho Technical College was 2.5 percent.

The tuition and fee increases take effect July 1st.  (OSBE, LMT)
