SEL expanding operations in Spokane

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories will expand its Spokane branch office following the purchase of a 28,000-square-foot building.

The Pullman-based company with operations in Lewiston bought the Spokane Valley property – formerly occupied by ITT Technical Institute – for $2.3 million, and it plans a move into the facility by late summer.

Employees in that area have worked since 2012 out of a leased space on North Sullivan Road, which SEL later will vacate.

The employee-owned company makes protection, monitoring and automation devices for the electric power industry.

SEL said it will continue to grow a presence in Spokane, where employees have increased from six to 60.  Spokane SEL employees support various divisions, including finance, marketing, and corporate communications, but more than half work in research and development.

ITT closed last fall, and the site near Interstate 90 has room for about 115 workers.   (Spokesman Review)
