Body found in Snake River likely Potlatch man missing since 2008

The remains of a headless body found March 21st near Chief Timothy Park along the Snake River appear to be those a missing Potlatch man.

Asotin County Sheriff John Hilderbrand says detectives believe the remains are those of 66-year-old Gary Thompson, who went missing while fishing from his boat along the Clearwater River in 2008.

While authorities are almost certain the remains are those of Thompson, forensic examiners in Seattle are working to confirm the identity through DNA testing.

Thompson’s anchored boat was discovered nearly nine years ago unoccupied with the engine still running north of the Nez Perce Historical Park near Spalding.

Investigators believed Thompson fell overboard while trying to lift the anchor.  He was presumed drowned.  No foul play is suspected.
