Gonzaga’s Mark Few on Thursday was named Associated Press men’s basketball Coach of the Year.

Few guided the 36-1 Bulldogs to a No. 1 ranking and their first Final Four, where they face South Carolina Saturday in a national semifinal at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Few received 31 votes from the 65 media panelists that select the weekly Top 25 poll.  Arizona’s Sean Miller was next with eight votes and Northwestern’s Chris Collins had seven.

Few has led Gonzaga to the NCAA Tournament every year since he was promoted to head coach following the 1999 season.  The Zags’ 19 consecutive NCAA appearances is the fourth longest active streak.  (Spokesman-Review)
