Idaho AG gets more time to consider Lewiston hospital sale

The Idaho Attorney General’s Office has more time to decide whether the sale of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston will go forward.

2nd District Court Judge Jay Gaskill granted the AG a 60-day extension on its deadline to issue a decision on the facility’s proposed 109 million dollar acquisition by RCCH Healthcare Partners from Ascension.

The transaction, which would make St. Joe’s a for-profit business for the first time, must be reviewed by the attorney general for compliance with terms spelled out by the Idaho Nonprofit Hospital Sale or Conversion Act.

The Ag’s office now has until March 20th to issue a decision.  Meanwhile, in a separate case, St. Joe’s seeks an injunction to block disclosure of an appraisal of the hospital on the grounds that it is a trade secret that could be used to the hospital’s detriment by its vendors and competitors.

St. Joseph'sThe Nez Perce County prosecutor and assessor made a records request for the appraisal for unspecified reasons.  (Lewiston Tribune)
