Firefighters from across the Lewis-Clark Valley responded to a fast-moving RV fire yesterday (Mon) afternoon in Clarkston as temperatures soared above 100 degrees.
According to the Asotin County Fire District, the incident occurred at an RV park located in the 1200 block of Bridge Street at about 3:30 p.m.
Emergency crews from Lewiston, Clarkston, and Asotin County Fire District #1 were dispatched and found two recreational vehicles engulfed. Fortunately, the RV owners escaped without injury. One individual was evaluated at the scene by medics but declined further treatment.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly and remained on scene for approximately one hour to monitor for hotspots and ensure the area was safe.
Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin emphasized the additional challenges firefighters face when operating in extreme heat. “When temperatures climb above 95 degrees, we must pay very close attention to firefighter health. With all the protective gear they wear, heat-related illnesses are a serious concern,” Hardin stated.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
