Officials say both lanes of Highway 95 in north central Idaho are now open to traffic after the stretch had been closed due to a large mudslide.

According to the Idaho Transportation Department, the area south of White Bird to New Meadows opened around 6 PM Sunday, following a mudslide at Fiddle Creek that had blocked the road for nearly 24 hours.

The slide caused the department to close that section of Highway 95 on Saturday morning.

The Fiddle Creek area, along with six to eight other sections of the highway just north of the Time Zone Bridge at Riggins, was inundated by heavy rain and hail Friday night, overflowing banks, and spilling mud, boulders and debris onto the highway. The mudslide at Fiddle Creek was about 200 feet long and 4 feet deep.  (Lewiston Tribune)
