The Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport holds an emergency response exercise Wednesday morning.

The goal of the exercise is to practice the response of crews on duty at the airport, personnel from the Lewiston Fire Department, EMS, and emergency response teams in the event of an emergency at the airport. The simulation includes an aircraft accident during an approach to Runway 12.

Since it is difficult to arrange for an actual aircraft servicing the airport, a local community transportation bus will be positioned at the accident location. The airport rescue and firefighting equipment will be first on the scene to suppress any hazardous materials or fire, and attempt to rescue passengers.

Lewiston Fire Department personnel, including EMS from Station 4, will respond, as well as local law enforcement.

Wednesday’s exercise begins at 8 AM and is expected to last for roughly 30 minutes. (City of Lewiston)
