A Nezperce man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at milepost 47 on Old State Highway 7, near Orofino.
Idaho State Police say 37-year-old Michael Gerten was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck toward a road closure shortly before 2pm Tuesday, when he failed to yield after Idaho State Police attempted to contact him. The pursuit was discontinued because of weather and road conditions. Gerten then failed to negotiate a curve on Old State Highway 7.
He was initially taken to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino by ground ambulance, then by air ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, where he died from his injuries. (Idaho State Police, Lewiston Tribune)
