The Idaho House has approved a measure to raise the minimum pay for Gem State teachers.

The House on Tuesday voted 61-9 in favor of Governor Brad Little’s proposal to bump starting teacher pay up to $40,000 over the next two years. Little originally proposed increasing Idaho’s starting teacher pay up to $40,000 next year, but with state tax revenues lagging, he revised the proposal to include a two-year phase-in.

The nine House members who voted “no” were all Republicans.

The measure now heads to the Senate. (Idaho Press)
