A vote is scheduled for Thursday for Potlatch #1 Federal Credit Union members to decide if the financial institution should change is its charter from a federal to state.

If the measure moves forward, the word “federal” would be replaced with “financial” in the name of one of the region’s largest financial institutions.

The conversion needs a simple majority of those casting ballots to pass and at least 15 members have to vote according to the Idaho Department of Finance.

The credit union already has preliminary approval from the agency. It also would need the green light from the National Credit Union Administration, which oversees federal credit unions.

The 6 p.m. gathering will be at the credit union’s offices at 1025 Warner Ave. in Lewiston.

Those who can’t attend the meeting can return ballots to P.O. Box 897, Lewiston, ID 83501 no later than 6 p.m. Thursday. (Lewiston Tribune)
