The Idaho state Board of Correction has extended its $46 million-a-year contract with Corizon Health for inmate health care for another two years.

Board members also voted this week to immediately launch a process to take the contract out to bid at the end of the extension. The contract allowed for an additional two-year extension after this one, but the board opted against that.

Board Chairwoman Debbie Field says there was a lot of hesitation on the board’s part, alluding to multiple lawsuits and court orders Idaho has faced over inmate health care. Field added several other entities have approached the board with interests in bidding on the contract.
