Idaho Elections: GOP take Legislative District 6 and NPC commission seats, Foreman ousted in Latah County,

Republicans prevailed in the Idaho legislative races for District 6.

Thyra Stevenson defeated Independent Rick Tousley 58 percent to 42 percent, while incumbent Representative Mike Kingsley won 59 percent to 41 percent over Democrat John Rusche.

In Latah County, District 5 Republican Senator Dan Foreman, an ultra-conservative who gained national notoriety last year after yelling at and threatening college students in Boise, lost his seat to Democrat David Nelson, 58 percent to 42 percent.

The District 5 House races saw incumbent Republican Rep. Caroline Nilsson Troy beat Democrat Laurene Sorensen 54 percent to 46 percent, and Republican Bill Goesling top Democrat Margaret Gannon, 51 percent to 49 percent.

Two races for Nez Perce County Commissioner saw Republican Don Beck beat Democrat Bob Blakey 65 percent to 35 percent, and Republican Doug Zenner turn away Independent Bob Hasenoehrl 55 percent to 45 percent.

By a 56 percent to 44 percent margin, longtime Clearwater County Commissioner Don Ebert was ousted, as the Democrat fell to Republican Mike Ryan.

Voter turnout in Nez Perce County was over 68 percent for the mid-term election, while turnout in Clearwater County topped 72 percent. (Idaho Secretary of State’s Office)
