Homeless man arrested for grabbing teenager in Clarkston

arrest-made

An arraignment is scheduled for later this month for a homeless man who allegedly grabbed a 14-year-old Colfax girl who was running in a cross country meet in Clarkston Tuesday afternoon.

33-year-old John Cooksey faces a felony charge of unlawful imprisonment for reportedly gripping the girl’s arm as she ran down a path toward the Greenbelt Trail system near Riverview Boulevard.

The girl told police she was running by herself toward the river when she saw someone hidden in the bushes and another man on a bicycle. As she ran by the man on the bike, he reached out and grabbed her left forearm. The runner hit the man’s hand to free her. She immediately told one of the coaches about the incident, and Clarkston police responded.

The man fled, but left behind personal items with his identification. He later showed up at the Clarkston Police Station and was taken into custody.

Cooksey is being held on $10,000 bail, and is set to be arraigned October 22nd in Asotin County Superior Court. (Lewiston Tribune)
