A woman who has previously run for a seat on the Clarkston City Council has been appointed to fill a vacant position on the panel.

Melyssa Andrews

Melyssa Andrews was selected from four applicants following interviews and an executive session, and she was immediately sworn in Monday to replace Brian Kolstad, who resigned in June. Andrews, who has attended many city council sessions, ran for a council position as both a write-in and regular candidate over a number of years.

Meanwhile, the city officials are considering a possible ban on private fireworks inside city limits over concerns about public safety, fires, noise, and debris. Any ban would not affect Clarkston’s public display at Adams Field. City leaders plan to talk more about the options at future council meetings. (Lewiston Tribune)
