Fire damages home, RV near Lewiston

A home and a recreational vehicle on the 100 block of Southport Avenue just outside of the Lewiston city limits were torched by a fire late Monday afternoon.

Crews from the Lewiston Fire Department and Asotin County Fire District No. 1 responded to the blaze, but the flames were too advanced for them to save the structure. Instead, they worked to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to the dry grassy hillsides overlooking the Snake River southwest of the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport.

Firefighters soaked the structure with water to keep it contained and made arrangements with the owners to have the charred skeleton knocked down with heavy equipment to make containing the flames easier.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. (Lewiston Tribune)
