Asotin’s EMS levy narrowly passing in early primary returns

A measure to make permanent an emergency medical services levy for the City of Asotin is on its way to narrowly passing.

As of Tuesday night’s primary ballot count, the levy had 158 yes votes, which has it passing at 60 percent – the threshold needed to be approved. The levy of 50 cents per $1,000 dollars of assessed valuation is the same amount approved for the past several years, but just makes it permanent. The levy is intended to pay for ambulance services inside city limits, along with training and equipment related to EMS.

Another 400 ballots are expected to arrive in the mail Wednesday, but only the ones from city voters will affect the levy’s outcome.

Voter turnout is currently at 33 percent, but officials expect that number to increase when all of the ballots have been counted and the election is certified.  (Lewiston Tribune)
