More funding has been earmarked for Lewis-Clark State College’s new career and technical education center.

On Monday, U.S Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced a $1.5 million Economic Development Administration grant for construction of the center, which will support workforce development and training activities throughout the region. The federal grant award comes a few weeks after Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories and its founder donated $3 million for the center.

LCSC has now raised nearly half of the $10 million in local matching funds it needs to provide for the project. Once that milestone is met, the state will chip in the remaining $10 million to complete construction.

The 75-thousand-square-foot center in the Lewiston Orchards is scheduled to be finished in 2020. (Lewiston Tribune)
