New figures rank Idaho’s per-pupil education spending at Number 49 in the nation.

According to new, adjusted figures from Education Week, the publication calculated per-pupil spending in all states and the District of Columbia, and adjusted the numbers for regional differences in cost. Even so, Idaho came in ahead of only two Western states – Utah and Arizona.

Idaho’s per-pupil spending was $8,422, while the national average was more than $12,500. Utah ranked lowest at $7,200 per pupil, while Vermont ranked highest at $20,795.

Idaho is among 26 states that received an “F” for school spending, though the Gem State got a C-plus for funding equity. Idaho ranked 48th overall in Education Week’s Quality Counts 2018 Report released in January.

Graded for school finance, K-12 achievement, and “chance for success,” Idaho received an overall grade of D-plus. (Idaho Education News)
