Idaho State Police say the state is on a record pace for fatal crashes this summer, heading into the second week of what is known as the “100 Deadliest Days of Driving,” the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

In 2017, 90 people died on Idaho’s roadways during that time frame. Since May 25th of this year, ISP troopers have already investigated nine crashes that resulted in fatalities throughout the state. Seven of those fatalities took place this past weekend, including a 6-car chain-reaction crash that killed two people and injured three others near Jerome.

Although law enforcement officials expect to see more traffic crashes during the summer as more cars are on the roadways, this year’s numbers are higher than average so far.

ISP on Monday reminded motorists of a number of safety tips, including using seat belts, exercising patience, and avoiding distracted driving, especially with smartphones. (ISP, KVBI)
