A charge of felony vehicular manslaughter has been levied against a 31-year-old California man involved in a fatal car accident in North Lewiston over the weekend.

According to the Lewiston Police Department, Pompeyo Salazar-Cabrera was driving a 2015 Swift Transportation tractor-trailer south on U.S. Highway 95 just before 6:30 AM Saturday when he allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with State Route 128. His truck hit an eastbound 1999 Toyota Camry, sending both vehicles into the parking lot area of a nearby motel, where they struck an unoccupied parked vehicle and came to rest.

The driver of the Camry, 19-year-old Hayden Garrett, of Clarkston, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Salazar-Cabrera was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation. (LPD, Lewston Tribune)
