A Moscow judge is among four finalists vying for a spot on the Idaho Supreme Court.

The Idaho Judicial Council on Wednesday submitted the names of 2nd District Judge John Stegner and three other jurists to Gov. Butch Otter to fill the seat on the High Court being vacated at the end of the year by Justice Warren Jones, who was named to the court by Gov. Butch Otter in 2007.

Stegner has been a district judge since 1997. For the past 15 years, he has also presided over the Latah County drug court, and he lectures at the University of Idaho.

Last year, Stegner was one of four finalists to take the seat of retiring Justice Daniel Eismann. The governor ultimately appointed 5th District Judge Richard Bevans of Twin Falls to the court.

In similar fashion, Otter will replace Jones from the list of four names provided by the Idaho Judicial Council. That nominee will then fill out the remainder of Jones’ unexpired term, which ends in January 2021.

The other candidates are Eastern Idaho Seventh District Judge Greg Moeller; Christine Salmi, a private practice lawyer from Boise; and Susan Wiebe, a district judge of the Third Judicial District from Fruitland.  (Rexburg Standard Journal, LMT)
