Idaho House committee backs Giddings’ property tax benefit for disabled veterans

The Idaho House Revenue and Taxation Committee has sent to the full chamber a measure that would provide a new property tax benefit for disabled veterans.

The bill sponsored by White Bird Representative Priscilla Giddings provides a $1,300 tax credit for veterans who have a 100 percent service-related disability. Giddings noted that the credit would be separate and in addition to the “circuit breaker” property tax reduction that’s already available to veterans with at least a 10 percent service-related disability.

However, the combined value of the two credits could not exceed the total tax on the homestead. Also, unlike the circuit breaker, the proposed credit isn’t dependent on income.

The bill now goes to the full House for a vote.  (Lewiston Tribune)
