Lewiston Police Chief Chris Ankeny has announced his resignation, citing differences with the new city manager.

Ankeny, who has led the Lewiston Police Department for the past 2 1/2 years, on Tuesday submitted his letter of resignation to City Manager Alan Nygaard.  In it, Ankeny mentioned many differences of opinion regarding the operations and goals for the LPD, and said Nygaard’s actions have affected Ankeny’s ability to manage his team, and leaving many feeling uncertain about the future of the department.

Ankeny says he is retiring after 28 years in law enforcement to pursue other interests.

Ankeny says effective Tuesday, Lt. Joedy Mundell is acting chief in his absence.  Ankeny’s last official day with the city is Jan. 30.
