Garfield County sheriff’s election requires hand count

mail-in-voting

The thin margin in the Garfield County Sheriiff’s race requires a hand count of the ballots cast in November.

The county auditor will conduct the hand count Friday as the race has Sheriff Drew Hyer leading Chief Deputy Steve Krouse by just two votes, 585 to 583.  Officials say the tight race requires a manual count to make sure the machine tabulation was correct.

The news comes as other Washington elections were certified across the state Tuesday.

In Asotin County, the closest outcome was the Clarkston City Council race between incumbent John Murray and opponent Melyssa Andrews.  Murray secured his victory when the 66-vote margin election was certified. (LMT)
