The Transportation Security Administration is implementing new stronger screening procedures for carry-on items larger than a cell phone at airports nationwide, including the Lewiston/Nez Perce County Regional Airport.

Lorie Dankers, Spokeswoman for TSA in the state of Idaho says the new requirements are intended to assist screeners and clear potential threat items in carry-on bags.

The new procedures could mean longer wait times during security screenings and passengers are encouraged to arrive at airports at least 90 minutes prior to their flight’s departure.

Travelers may also consider checking bags or transferring certain electronic items from carry-on bags to checked bags prior to check-in.
